Corentin Tolisso Believes in His World Cup Chances

Corentin Tolisso has been in great form this season. As the top scorer for Lyon with 7 goals across all competitions, including a hat trick against Maccabi Tel-Aviv last Thursday, the 31-year-old midfielder aims to convince Didier Deschamps to select him for the upcoming World Cup. The 2018 World Cup champion, with 28 caps and 2 goals, knows he’s far from being the first choice, having not been called up since Euro 2021. However, he remains hopeful until the end of the season.

“I have this little regret of not doing better when I am feeling this good. I wonder what more I can do. As the coach says, there’s nothing more I can do. It’s up to me to be consistent and perform, and I truly believe that hard work will pay off. I’m determined,” he stated at a press conference before facing FC Nantes in the final match of the 14th round of Ligue 1 at 20:45 IST. He sees this World Cup as a key goal. “It helps me perform on the field since I know where I want to go. I have a long way to go because, as you see, decisions are being made. I respect that. I won’t give up. If I get to go, I will be very happy. If not, my daughters will be very happy.”
