Cristiano Ronaldo is still active in soccer at 40, breaking records and achieving new feats both on and off the field. Recently, he accomplished a milestone that even Lionel Messi has not reached.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which ranks the world’s richest individuals, Cristiano Ronaldo is the first soccer player to attain billionaire status. His wealth, estimated at $1.4 billion, includes earnings from his career, investments, and endorsements.

Ronaldo has amassed significant wealth during his time at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, reportedly earning over $550 million from 2002 to 2023. His net worth increased further after joining Al Nassr, leading to even greater financial success.

With his initial contract at Al Nassr, Ronaldo became the highest-paid player in soccer history. After extending his contract for two more years—approximately worth $400 million—he solidified his position as the first soccer player to achieve such a level of wealth.

In addition to his high salary, Ronaldo was granted a 15% ownership stake in Al Nassr, as well as a private jet and a dedicated staff of 16 during his time in Saudi Arabia.

What about Messi?

Lionel Messi has been Ronaldo’s biggest rival, especially during their famous matches in El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Both players have set numerous records and won many titles during their careers, but off the field, Ronaldo leads in financial success.

The Bloomberg report states that Messi has earned over $600 million in pre-tax salary throughout his career at Barcelona and Inter Miami.

Currently, he earns $20 million annually at Inter Miami in MLS, which is about one-tenth of Ronaldo’s recent salary.
