Oliver Glasner’s future at Crystal Palace is uncertain as the club has started discussions about his position.
The Austrian manager has had disagreements with the club regarding their transfer strategy. This season, the Eagles sold Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi while spending large sums on Jorgen Strand Larsen, Brennan Johnson, and Yeremy Pino.
Palace has struggled recently, losing matches to Sunderland, Chelsea, and Burnley in the Premier League. They also drew 1-1 with Bosnian team HŠK Zrinjski Mostar in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
On Friday, Fabrizio Romano reported that Glasner and the Palace board have begun “direct discussions” about his future. The coach has already indicated he will leave at the season’s end, but his exit could happen sooner. He’s been linked to managerial positions at Manchester United and Spurs, both of which are looking for new managers.
Oliver Glasner raises questions about his future as Crystal Palace starts talks
Ahead of Sunday’s match against Wolves, Glasner acknowledged he is “not good enough” to achieve last season’s level with the new players or handle the busier schedule.
When asked if he believes he can lead the team until the season’s end, Glasner replied, “Let’s see. I always said this – and this isn’t the first press conference where I could just repeat myself.
“As I said, eventually you always depend on your players. They will get all the support like always, and then we will see.
He did not provide a clear answer when asked if he wants to remain until summer. “Let’s see what the future brings. You never know,” he said.
When questioned on what needs to happen for him to stay for the season, he responded: “In football, it’s simple. As a manager, you will remain if the results are satisfactory. That’s what it comes down to, and the results recently have not been good. The performances have not been consistently strong, and that’s it.”
