Manchester United faced a significant injury setback when forward Matheus Cunha suffered a muscle injury during their Premier League match against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Cunha appeared to pull a muscle in his right leg while making a run shortly before the half-hour mark and signaled for medical help. After an initial evaluation, United’s medical team decided he needed to be substituted.
Joshua Zirkzee came on to take his place, taking on the role of the lone striker, supported by Mason Mount and Bryan Mbeumo in midfield.
Cunha joined United this summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million on a five-year contract, with a one-year extension option. He scored 31 goals in 76 matches for Wolves since his transfer in 2023.
His start at United has been challenging, as the club has struggled despite investing over £200 million to enhance its attacking lineup, which includes the signings of Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
