After a long absence, former Chelsea and Brazil international David Luiz has made a surprising return to European football. The 38-year-old has officially joined Cypriot Champions League club Pafos FC.
Having left Europe in 2021 after spending two years at Arsenal, David Luiz went on to play for Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Fortaleza.
In a statement, Pafos FC announced the signing of Brazilian football icon David Luiz, who will join the club on a contract until 2027.
“This historic transfer marks a significant moment in Cypriot football, with the arrival of a global superstar whose name has echoed through some of the world’s most iconic stadiums,” said Pafos.
However, David Luiz will miss Pafos’ Champions League third qualifying round first leg against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday (5 August 2025) due to injury.
