Dayro Moreno made history in continental football by scoring two goals in Once Caldas’ victory over Independiente del Valle in the Copa Sudamericana, as reported by DSports. The Colombian forward, who recently turned 40 on September 16, is one of the few players to score in this competition after reaching that age.

His first goal marked a significant achievement, and he followed it up with a second in the same match. This performance places Moreno among a select group of veterans who have succeeded in the tournament at 40 or older, including Uruguayans Diego Scotti and Richard Pellejero, Argentines José Sand, Maximiliano Rodríguez, Hernán Barcos, and Paraguayans Óscar Cardozo and Roque Santa Cruz.

Statistician Mister Chip noted how rare it is for players of that age to score in the Sudamericana. Moreno’s lasting career and his ability to step up in crucial moments highlight his resilience and impact in football.

Currently, he has scored 10 goals in this edition of the Copa Sudamericana, with six coming during the knockout stage, putting him in a good position for the tournament’s top scorer award. He is just one goal away from tying Eduardo Vargas’ record for a single season.

This double goal not only bolstered Once Caldas’ chances in the tournament but also reinforced Moreno’s status as one of the enduring stars of South American football. Even at 40, he continues to shine in pivotal matches on a major stage.
