German outlet Kicker reports that Martín Demichelis is a top candidate to become the new coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The club is facing challenges in the Bundesliga after firing Gerardo Seoane. Demichelis is on the list of potential coaches, which also includes Urs Fischer, Pellegrino Matarazzo, and Edin Terzic.
Seoane was let go after a ten-match winless streak, ending with a significant 4-0 loss to Werder Bremen. Sporting director Roland Virkus stated that the club “needed a change” due to a loss of confidence in improving the situation. Meanwhile, under-23 coach Eugen Polanski will take over as the interim coach.
Demichelis has a notable background as a coach. He previously led Bayern Munich’s youth teams and found success at River Plate, securing 55 wins and three domestic titles, while also setting a record for home wins at El Monumental. In Monterrey, he coached 42 matches, achieving 20 wins, 11 draws, and 11 losses, but his time there ended after failing to progress in the Concachampions and Liga MX Clausura playoffs.
At 43, Demichelis combines South American success with a strong background in German football, where he was formerly a defender for Bayern before transitioning to coaching. His profile makes him a compelling choice for a club in need of a turnaround.
