Diego Costa stated that ‘nobody liked’ former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte during his time at the club.
Costa played a crucial role in Conte’s first season at Chelsea, scoring 20 goals in 35 matches as the team won the Premier League title.
Even with that success, Costa learned from Conte that he was not in the club’s plans for the next season. Chelsea spent £58 million to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.
Costa was ultimately removed from the squad, leading to his return to Atletico Madrid in January 2018.
Throughout the first six months of the 2017-18 season, Costa did not play for Chelsea after being sidelined by Conte. His negative feelings about how he was treated remain.
On The Obi One Podcast with former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, Costa shared his thoughts on Conte, saying that no one at Chelsea enjoyed working with the Italian.
“He is a person who doesn’t trust others. He thinks he knows everything,” Costa remarked.
“You don’t enjoy training with him; he’s always angry, always with a long face. The players wanted me to come back, but nobody liked him, and that’s why he didn’t last long.”
