On September 19, 2020, Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton for €45 million and quickly captured the hearts of the fans with his performances. Liverpool posted on X, stating that Jota will always hold a special place in their hearts and will be remembered as their number 20.

During his time at Liverpool, Diogo Jota played 182 matches, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists, earning him a beloved status among supporters worldwide.

On July 3, 2025, Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Zamora, Spain. This devastating news reverberated through the sports community. Many prominent athletes paid tribute to Jota, and Liverpool retired the number 20 shirt, ensuring that his legacy will always be part of the club’s story.
