He’ll have to give up his usual number.

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has joined Manchester City, raising curiosity about which shirt number he would wear. It turns out he will not be wearing his typical number 99.

Details: As reported by talkSPORT, Donnarumma will wear number 25 due to Premier League rules. While players can choose any number from 1 to 99, several restrictions apply:

  • The rules maintain traditional numbers for specific positions (like No. 1 for goalkeepers and Nos. 2–5 for defenders);
  • higher numbers can create confusion for fans, referees, and commentators;
  • clubs prefer standard numbers for better merchandising and marketing;
  • football has a long history of traditional squad numbering.

Reminder: Previously, Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku mentioned that the team’s slow start was due to players giving up too quickly after conceding a goal, indicating a need to improve their mindset.
