Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach will meet on Friday at Signal Iduna Park.
This match is expected to be an exciting Borussen derby, with Dortmund looking to recover from their recent 1-1 draw with SC Freiburg.
Borussia Dortmund has the highest number of clean sheets this Bundesliga season (7) and aims to maintain their positive record against Mönchengladbach, having not lost to them in their last five encounters.
Dortmund faces several injury issues ahead of this match. Jobe Bellingham is suspended for two games after his red card against Freiburg.
Manager Niko Kovač is dealing with multiple injuries, as Waldemar Anton and Aaron Anselmino are out with thigh injuries. Julian Brandt (ankle) and Marcel Sabitzer (muscle stiffness) are also uncertain for the game.
Additionally, Ramy Bensebaini is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Salih Özcan is out with an Achilles injury. Julian Brandt will be sidelined until at least mid-January due to his ankle problem.
Mönchengladbach is also coping with a significant injury crisis. Tim Kleindienst (post-surgery), Franck Honorat (calf), and Robin Hack (knee) will not participate. Fabio Chiarodia (hip), Nathan N’Goumou (Achilles), and Marvin Friedrich (ankle) are also unavailable. Furthermore, Jan Urbich is ill, complicating matters for coach Eugen Polanski.
Dortmund’s recent performances have been mixed, with two wins and three draws in their last five Bundesliga matches. They last played to a 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg on December 14, where Ramy Bensebaini scored first before Jobe Bellingham’s red card led them to defend a draw with ten players.
Lucas Höler equalized for Freiburg in the 75th minute, which extended Dortmund’s unbeaten run but left the coaching staff frustrated with missed chances.
In other competitions, Dortmund has not managed to win their last two matches, losing 0-1 to Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal and drawing 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
The team faced a tough 3-1 loss to VfL Wolfsburg on December 13, where Patrick Wimmer scored twice and Mohamed Amoura added another. They could only manage a consolation goal from Konstantinos Koulierakis. Currently, they hold 12th place with 16 points from 14 Bundesliga matches.
Dortmund: Kobel; Sule, Can, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Gross, Nmecha, Svensson; Adeyemi, Chukwuemeka; Guirassy
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Nicolas; Scally, Elvedi, Diks; Castrop, Reitz, Engelhardt, Netz; Machino, Reyna; Tabakovic
Viewers in the United Kingdom can catch the match live for free on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and the BBC Sport app. It will also be available on the official Bundesliga YouTube channel as part of their free-to-air Friday night strategy.
