Eddie Howe has confirmed that he is committed to Newcastle United amid speculation about the vacant Manchester United position after Ruben Amorim’s firing.
The Portuguese coach was dismissed by Manchester United following his comments about difficulties behind the scenes after Sunday’s draw with Leeds United.
“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not just the head coach,” he stated. “I know I’m not Conte, Tuchel, or Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United.”
He added, “This will be the situation for 18 months or until the board decides differently. I’m not quitting; I will continue my role until someone else takes over.”
Howe’s name has previously been linked with the Manchester United job and has surfaced as a possible candidate again. However, he reiterated that “nothing will change” while he enjoys his time at St. James’ Park.
“Nothing has changed for me,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “I’m 100 percent here, working hard and focusing on preparing the team for Leeds, ignoring all the speculation in the media, whether positive or negative, as it doesn’t matter.”
“My commitment to the role remains strong. As long as I’m happy and can contribute effectively to the team, nothing will change.”
When asked if anything could make him leave Newcastle, Howe replied: “No, not at the moment. The most important thing for me is my happiness in this role and my relationships with those around me.”
“While things can change at any club, I’m currently very happy. For a club to succeed, there needs to be unity and a good spirit throughout. I’ve enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the board since I’ve joined, and that remains unchanged.”
“I feel fortunate to have this rapport, as not all managers get the chance to build such relationships. Trust and confidence are vital; with those elements, success is more likely.”
“I’m very happy right now, and I hope that continues for a long time.”
