Nottingham Forest made headlines by signing Elliott Anderson from Newcastle for a considerable fee. This £35 million transfer raised questions as he had not been a regular starter at St James’ Park.
However, since moving, Anderson has found his footing, earning his place on the England team and playing alongside Declan Rice. He shared with the Daily Mail that he closely observes Rice’s style of play.
“I want to watch his games,” Anderson said. “To see how he plays and the way he approaches the game. I don’t know him well yet since I’m new to the team.
“But Declan has been incredibly helpful in understanding our roles,” Anderson noted.
“He is more forward-thinking. He’s the eight while I’m the six,” Anderson explained.
“I appreciate how he controls the midfield and influences the game. Every match helps strengthen our connection,” he added.

Since joining Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024, there were doubts about whether Anderson could live up to his £35 million price tag.
Despite limited appearances at St James’ Park, he has now established himself as a key player at the City Ground and is part of the England setup under Thomas Tuchel. “I want to watch his games,” he reiterated. “To learn how he plays. I’m still getting to know him.”
“Declan has been a huge support in helping me understand our roles. He plays a more attacking role, while I focus defensively,” Anderson said.
“I admire his ability to control the midfield and set the pace of the game. We continue to build that connection during every match,” Elliot concluded.
