Despite Marc Keller’s insistence that Strasbourg will not become a subsidiary of Chelsea, there is close attention in England on potential transfers to the Blues, especially with Emmanuel Emegha recently confirmed as a future player for the London club, much to the frustration of Strasbourg supporters.

Recent comments from the Dutch player may have added to the tension, particularly when he claimed he thought Strasbourg was in Germany before signing, or when he joked that his club hadn’t won against PSG, Monaco, Rennes, or OL because he wasn’t there. These remarks reportedly contributed to his suspension from the upcoming match against Toulouse, officially cited as a “lack of respect for the club’s values, expectations, and rules.”

A tarnished reputation before arriving in England

Though the player has since apologized, this incident has sparked considerable reactions in England, negatively impacting his image. “This transfer has raised concerns among some Chelsea supporters about the player’s attitude and maturity, with some even claiming they’ve signed the wrong attacker from Strasbourg,” reported The Sun, sharing comments from Chelsea fans including: “We need to find a way to send him elsewhere and bring in Panichelli,” and another remarked, “Reece, Enzo, Maresca, and the management will tolerate nothing, so I hope all issues are resolved.”

The Independent noted: “This incident comes amid dissatisfaction among fans following the acquisition of Strasbourg by Chelsea’s owner group, BlueCo, in 2023. His comments were poorly received, and another controversy has emerged from his interview where he struggled to locate Strasbourg on a map.” The Daily Mail highlighted a “surprising statement” regarding the player’s geographical knowledge. Meanwhile, Chelsea News mentioned: “At least for Chelsea supporters, Emegha is not yet a Chelsea player, even though his signing has been announced by all parties. It appears there are current issues that Chelsea won’t appreciate at all…” The Chelsea Chronicle added: “This type of conflict is never a good sign. Chelsea will assess the situation considering various factors. First and foremost, Emegha’s behavior is concerning. As captain of the club, he shouldn’t find himself in this predicament.” Emegha will need to work on his image in England before he even sets foot there.
