This marks the second consecutive year that Chicago will compete against Detroit City FC in the Round of 32, following a 4-0 victory for Chicago in the 2025 tournament. Forward Alex Dalou scored his second goal in as many Open Cup matches, leading Detroit to its third straight win against the Bucks and its third trip to the Round of 32 in five years.
Chicago Fire has a notable history in the U.S. Open Cup. The team has won the cup four times (1998, 2000, 2003, 2006), which is the most titles for any MLS team. Chicago also holds the record for the most wins and semifinal appearances in this annual tournament.
