Endless Journey: Manchester United’s Long-Term Project with Amorim

Footem.inRuben Amorim has stated that Premier League giant Manchester United still requires time to establish a long-term project foundation, despite the team not securing a win in the Premier League this season and facing a busy domestic schedule.

Focus on Player Rotation and Team Readiness

In a press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup match against Grimsby Town, Amorim highlighted the importance of player rotation. United recently drew 1-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage and will host Burnley this weekend.

With three matches in a week, Amorim emphasized that rotation is crucial for the squad to compete effectively in every game.

“We have three matches this week. We have quality players and need to rotate to win every game,” he remarked.

Last season, United finished 15th in the Premier League, and their hopes for European competition were dashed after losing 0-1 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

While missing continental competitions for the first time in over a decade, Amorim believes it is not a disaster. He feels the team is not yet prepared for the intensity of both European and domestic matches.

“This is a normal situation that other clubs also experience. I think we are not ready to play in Europe. We need time to grow, and internal competition is necessary for players to fight for their positions. Everything will change over time,” he asserted.

Amorim emphasized that United’s squad-building project is still in its early stages.

He hopes to remain in his coaching position long enough for the team to be truly ready for future European competitions.

“We need time to build our foundation. Eventually, there will come a time when we must compete in Europe so all players can have the opportunity,” he said.

Player Conditions and Squad Changes

Amorim also addressed inquiries regarding the status of key players. The goalkeeper position remains a concern as Altay Bayindir, who replaced Andre Onana, has not yet shown solid performances.

His mistakes allowed Arsenal to score the winning goal through Riccardo Calafiori, while Fulham also applied pressure on him. However, Amorim considers this understandable given the competitive nature of the Premier League.

Additionally, the defense is still incomplete. Lisandro Martinez will be out for an extended period due to an ACL injury sustained last season against Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui, who has a thigh injury, is expected to return soon.

“He might be back next week. We’ll see. He’s nearly finished with his training program,” Amorim mentioned.

Up front, Rasmus Højlund has not been played amidst transfer rumors. Meanwhile, United has spent nearly Rp4 trillion (around £200 million) on signings, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko this transfer window, while also retaining Joshua Zirkzee acquired from Bologna last year.

Regardless, Amorim assures that all players are part of his plans. “All players are available. We will choose the best eleven to win every match,” he concluded.
