He really went all out.
Football has seen its share of players involved in betting, but it’s rare for a player to bet against his own team.
Details: Walsall’s midfielder Jamie Jellis is one such case, facing sanctions from the Football Association for breaching betting rules. The 24-year-old has placed bets against his own team on three occasions and made a total of 2,248 bets between April 2019 and July 2023.
Jellis received a five-month suspension, which is deferred for one year, and has been fined £1,250. The association mentioned that he expressed regret over his actions, stopped betting in July 2023, and cooperated fully with the investigation.
Reminder: Recently, Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali was also suspended for ten months due to betting violations.
