Enzo Maresca Criticizes Liam Delap Following His Red Card Incident

Chelsea’s coach, Enzo Maresca, voiced his frustration after striker Liam Delap received two yellow cards within just seven minutes during the Blues’ thrilling 4-3 win over Wolverhampton in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. In an interview with The Athletic, Maresca criticized Delap for his selfish play. This incident marked Delap’s first appearance in two months due to a hamstring injury. As a result, he will miss Chelsea’s upcoming league match against Tottenham.

Maresca described the red card as embarrassing and stressed the need to avoid such situations, stating: “It’s embarrassing when there’s a red card like today. Two yellow cards in seven minutes, both could have been avoided. It’s not good.” He continued, “After the first yellow, I told him four or five times to stay calm. But Liam is a player who, when he’s on the pitch, plays for himself and struggles to listen to those around him.” Chelsea has now seen five players sent off in their last nine matches.
