Everton are facing some tough times recently.

David Moyes’ team has secured only one win in their last seven matches across all competitions, and they still haven’t won in 2026.

As they prepare to face Aston Villa this afternoon, Everton finds itself in the lower half of the league table.

This situation has led to increased pressure on Moyes, especially since Everton invested over £100 million during the summer transfer window, with fans expecting better results.

Additionally, a club legend has expressed interest in taking over if Moyes is let go by the Friedkin Group.

On BBC’s Football Focus, Wayne Rooney talked about recent changes at Manchester United and said he would be interested in a role there after Michael Carrick’s appointment.

He also expressed willingness to consider a position at Everton if it becomes available.

“I mentioned last week that if Manchester United called me for any role, I’d be happy to take it. I have a lot of love for that club from my 13 years there,” he said.

Rooney added: “It’s likely one of only two clubs I would return to coach, the other being Everton.”

Though Moyes is not anticipated to leave his position soon, he has 18 months left on his contract and needs to improve results to secure an extension.

Wayne Rooney’s most recent job as a manager

Rooney’s latest managerial role was with Plymouth Argyle in the Championship, which did not end well.

Plymouth dismissed him in late 2024 after a poor run that left the team at the bottom of the league. He also faced challenges during his time at Birmingham City.

There were rumors that he might participate in a Misfits boxing event, but those discussions have not progressed.

Since then, Rooney has been working as a pundit and seems keen on returning to football management, eyeing roles at Manchester United or Everton.
