Everton is looking for valuable players to enhance David Moyes’ squad.

Last month, Angus Kinnear stated that the club is not pursuing quick solutions during this transfer window. The emphasis is on long-term plans.

He said, “We aim to find and seize opportunities that will strengthen us in the long run. These opportunities must be exceptional, and we will avoid short-term solutions that could harm our efforts for the future.”

Moyes is expected to sign three new players this month to help Everton aim for a return to European competitions.

Recently, there have been rumors linking Everton with a playmaker, praised by Gary Lineker.

There are reports that Everton wishes to sign Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal this transfer window.

Nwaneri, who has not played a league match this season, is also being pursued by Fulham.

Even with limited playing time, the 18-year-old is regarded as a top young talent. Mikel Arteta’s minimal use of him has drawn some attention.

Signing Nwaneri would be a significant move for Everton. Lineker has praised Nwaneri, describing him as ‘special’.

After Arsenal’s 4-2 victory against Leicester City last season, Lineker remarked, “We saw a lovely cameo from Nwaneri. He looks really gifted. He looks special.”

Alan Shearer has also commended the young player, calling him a ‘potential superstar’.

Joe Cole made a Lionel Messi comparison with Ethan Nwaneri

Joe Cole compared Nwaneri to Lionel Messi last year, noting his small size and left-footed skills.

In February 2025, Cole said: “He’s a strong little player.

“You can’t mark him because he can move both ways. The touches he makes near the box remind me of Messi.

“I don’t want to put extra pressure on him; I’m sure he can handle it. He plays with so much confidence and is a joy to watch.”

Everton is focusing on acquiring a striker this January, but as Angus Kinnear mentioned, the club will not pass up exceptional chances if they arise.
