The New Nissan Stadium is very noticeable today. If you’re in downtown Nashville looking out from above or driving on the interstate near the east side, you can see the impressive structure rising next to the existing Nissan Stadium.
The Titans will receive the keys to their new stadium next February, and they recently showed us the progress made just eleven months before the opening. Here are the updates from our tour.
Sights and updates from New Nissan Stadium
Let’s begin with the view. Here’s a panoramic video of the stadium bowl from the 300 level concourse.
The scale of the stadium is impressive! The size is becoming clearer, but we will truly understand it when we see details like painted field markers or individual seats. I think people might be surprised at how “small” it feels. This design is intentional; while the capacity isn’t a huge drop from the old stadium (60,000 compared to 69,000), the stacked layout creates a more intimate feel. Fans will notice right away that it seems there’s no bad seat in the house. The upper deck feels much closer to the action.
The sightlines are modern, much like Geodis Park where Nashville SC plays. A cheaper ticket might still feel like a great value. In contrast, the current Nissan Stadium’s sightlines can make the worst seats feel far away.
A big step in the construction is installing the roof. The cable lattice structure has been laid over the entire bowl.
Hydraulic cranks will tighten the roof in September or October, and the clear ETFE roofing material, referred to as ETFE “pillows,” will be secured. This marks a key step toward fully enclosing the venue.
Here’s a video walking through the 300 level concourse.
The large white wall in the background will showcase Tennessee high school football, including girls’ flag football programs. Next, here’s a video walking through the 100 level concourse.
In earlier tours, much of the structure was exposed. Now, with most of the framing and drywall in place, you can better understand the public spaces’ size and shape. Fans will notice that these concourses are spacious and well-designed.
Say goodbye to the cramped feels of the old concourse. The new space is designed more like a mall or a modern airport, which is a huge improvement over the current Nissan Stadium.
Here are some renderings showing what the finished stadium may look like. One image is partially redacted, indicating ongoing changes to the plans.
Here are some interesting facts comparing the new stadium to the old one:
- The current Nissan Stadium has 4 escalators and 6 elevators. The new one will have 44 escalators and 27 elevators.
- Frictionless markets will streamline concessions. You can take what you want and just walk out, thanks to Amazon technology, avoiding long lines.
- The old stadium team store is about 4,000 square feet, while the new one will be 11,000 square feet, plus three smaller stores around the stadium, nearly the size of the current store.
We also got a preview of the new Titans locker room, which is already framed within the building.
The new locker room will be 50% larger than the current one, enough to fit the full offseason roster of 90 players. The current setup often requires half the team to use secondary lockers before the game day roster is finalized. The new facility will also feature dedicated meeting rooms for offense and defense, improved amenities for female staff, and spacious family areas, with 68 locker spaces sized for larger players.
