Antoine Semenyo is a key target for Manchester United in January, but they face competition to secure his transfer.
United’s interest started last summer during their attacking lineup changes, but Semenyo decided to remain with Bournemouth.
He was considered a backup option while the club negotiated Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer from Brentford, which took over a month.
During this time, Semenyo signed a long-term deal with Bournemouth that included a release clause.
The 25-year-old is available for £65 million this January, but this option expires on the 10th, giving Bournemouth time to find a replacement if he leaves.
This opportunity has caught the attention of top clubs, with Fabrizio Romano confirming a transfer battle between Manchester United and Manchester City.
Romano stated: “Man United against Manchester City. This is the current situation, a Manchester battle.”
He added that contact has been made between Semenyo’s representatives, Manchester United, and Manchester City.
“Both clubs are presenting their plans and financial offers to the player,” he explained.
Romano also mentioned Liverpool’s interest, reporting they reached out to Bournemouth in November to inquire about the release clause, but they are not in the running right now.
With Manchester City as United’s main competitor, they are eager to finalize the deal quickly, with CentreDevils previously noting a strategy to manage the release clause payment over several years, similar to their agreement for Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million fee last summer.
