Substitute Tom Barlow scored in the 80th minute, and Kevin Denkey added another during stoppage time as 10-man FC Cincinnati came back to win 4-3 against CF Montreal on Sunday.
Barlow netted his first goal for the team just three minutes after coming on, and 20 minutes after Miles Robinson was sent off.
Denkey’s second league goal secured the comeback, just days after Cincinnati lost 5-1 to Tigres UANL in Mexico City, which resulted in a 5-4 aggregate loss in the CONCACAF Champions Cup series.
Ender Echenique scored Cincinnati’s first goal and assisted Ayoub Jabbari for the second.
Prince Owusu found the net twice for Montreal, scoring his third and fourth goals of the season, with one being a penalty. He also provided an assist.
Wiki Carmona contributed with his third goal and an assist, but Montreal struggled despite having an additional player. They have been outscored 4-1 in matches where they played 11 against 10.
Both late Cincinnati goals were due to errors by Montreal defenders.
First, Barlow took advantage when Samuel Piette misplayed a clearance, quickly finishing low past goalkeeper Thomas Gillier.
Later, on a throw-in from Cincinnati, a Montreal defender misheaded the ball, allowing Denkey to touch it over the line and celebrate a crucial goal for Cincinnati’s season.
Robinson received a red card in the 60th minute after referee Filip Dujic ruled he had fouled Owusu, denying a clear scoring chance.
Owusu then converted the penalty, placing it just inside the right post after making the goalkeeper dive the wrong way.
Carmona’s long-distance effort opened the scoring early, but Echenique equalized in the 40th minute, only for Owusu to restore Montreal’s lead just before halftime. Jabbari brought Cincinnati level at 2-2 in the 52nd minute.
