Manchester United‘s transfer plans have been shaky due to frequent management changes.

After a busy summer with new players like Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and goalkeeper Senne Lammens, the club might need to look for more attacking options.

Statistics show a concerning trend: United has missed nearly half of its expected goals this season, with the expensive pair of Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee not delivering as expected.

While Mbeumo has stood out with six goals, Sesko has had a tough time finding his form, doubling his tally to just four this week.

This search for more goals has turned their attention to the Bundesliga‘s young talent: Said El Mala.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a standout player in German football this season.

Since moving to FC Koln from Viktoria Koln in July 2024, El Mala has made a significant impact in the top flight.

In just 15 Bundesliga matches this season, he has scored six goals and provided three assists, outperforming many senior players at United.

His versatility has sparked interest from United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

El Mala’s agent recently commented on the speculation, stating that the player is currently focused on helping Koln avoid relegation.

However, those expecting a bargain price for the winger may be disappointed.

Vice President Ulf Sobek clarified that even a hefty fee would not ensure a sale this month, as he spoke to Express.

When asked about a speculative €50 million transfer, Sobek highlighted the broader financial implications: “It’s not just about the upfront cost; you also need to consider the timing and tax implications.”

He added, “Our priority is the overall benefit when we consider selling someone valuable. Ideally, I hope Said stays with us for a long time and brings us success. I’d like to see him play alongside his brother Malek, who I believe has great potential. But if a player is valued at €50 million, he will also expect a competitive salary, so we need to consider the club’s wage structure.”
