Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç expressed his concerns about Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who signed with Lisbon’s Benfica on September 18.
Details: Koç suspects that Mourinho had an agreement with Benfica prior to his departure from Turkey, as the coach quickly found a new position. He believes Mourinho was aware of Bruno Lage’s firing and was in talks with sporting director Mário Branco even before his contract with Fenerbahçe ended.
Mourinho responded by saying he always “turns the page” after leaving a club and has never misled anyone. He noted that he joined Benfica as soon as the chance came.
His contract with the Lisbon club is valid until June 2027, but the financial details have not been revealed.
Reminder: Mourinho was let go from Fenerbahçe on August 29 after a Champions League qualifying defeat to Benfica.
