Fenerbahçe was unable to secure Luciano Spalletti as their head coach. Club president Ali Koç announced that they reached out to the Italian coach, who was their primary choice to take over from José Mourinho.
“Spalletti was our top pick, but he chose not to coach this season. Given that we have many foreign players, our new manager needs to have experience in European football. We are evaluating several candidates and will reveal our new coach soon,” Koç stated.
To note, Spalletti stepped down as Italy’s national team manager in June following a disappointing Euro 2024 performance. He was succeeded by Gennaro Gattuso, who has garnered attention for his distinctive motivational strategies.
