FIFA has announced that the winner of the Club World Cup, to be held in the United States this year, will receive up to $125 million US dollars, or around ₹10,900 crore.
The Club World Cup will take place from 14 June to 13 July 2025 and will feature 32 clubs. FIFA announced earlier this month that the total prize money will be US$1 billion.
A significant amount in today’s climate of tight club financial regulation. Clubs will have additional funds to use to bring in players they have targeted in the transfer market.
“FIFA will not withhold any money for this tournament as all revenue will be distributed to the clubs,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino was quoted as saying by Reuters.
About half of the $1 billion will be shared among the 32 clubs, with the amount each club receives based on sporting and commercial criteria.
This means that clubs such as Manchester City and Real Madrid will receive a larger percentage than smaller clubs.
An additional $475 million will be awarded based on performance, meaning that the team with the most wins over seven possible matches will receive more money. If they win the championship, the club could pocket up to $125 million.
Many players and coaches, including England captain Harry Kane, have raised concerns about the welfare and health of players with the new format of the Club World Cup. Players will have less time off between seasons.
“Obviously it’s another summer where you don’t really have a break,” Kane said.
“I think we’re getting used to it. There’s nothing we can really do about it.
