FIFA may expand the number of teams per country at the Club World Cup
More clubs on the big stage.
The summer of 2025 marked the start of the updated FIFA Club World Cup, with Chelsea winning the first title. The tournament included 32 teams, and there is potential for more teams in the future.
Details: As reported by The Times Sport, FIFA is considering relaxing rules on the number of clubs allowed from each country. This year, England had two teams, but upcoming changes could increase that to three from each nation. This adjustment will apply to all participating countries.
Brazil has expressed interest in hosting the 2029 Club World Cup and has talked with FIFA officials in Switzerland. Currently, Brazil is the only candidate, but a decision has not yet been made by FIFA.
Reminder: FIFA is also looking into the option of giving Chelsea automatic entry into the next Club World Cup as the current champions.
