Filipe Luís explained after Flamengo’s 2-0 victory over Juventude in Caxias do Sul why he declined an offer from Fenerbahçe. This win brought the team three points and marked the end of a 28-year winless streak at that location.

In a conversation with reporters, Filipe praised his team’s dedication: “We take it one game at a time. I told the players this week that watching the training sessions during the FIFA break gave me a lot to reflect on. After nine months of competition, no one is complaining about fatigue; everyone is eager to train and compete. The level of work has been very high. This group wants to make history.”

When asked about the Turkish offer, he responded clearly: “When other clubs reach out, it’s validating our work. But this wasn’t the right time. I know exactly what I want for my life and career. I have a commitment to these players and this club, and I want to honor that.”

The victory pushed Flamengo to 50 points in the Brasileirão, with one game in hand over their rivals. The attention now turns to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, where they will face Estudiantes on Thursday at Maracanã. “This is the most important game of the year, but my focus was solely on Juventude. Starting tomorrow, we’ll prepare to face Estudiantes. They’re a strong opponent, like all Argentine teams,” he stated.

Filipe also praised Saúl’s impressive performance: “We’re seeing the best version of Saúl, possibly the best of his career. That’s due to his efforts and the club’s faith in him. After such a long journey, nobody expected him to play 90 minutes with such quality. He’s a special player, and we’re fortunate to have him.”
