Chicago Fire FC has announced the termination of midfielder Kellyn Acosta’s contract as of Wednesday.
During his two seasons with the Fire, the 30-year-old player scored three goals and provided three assists in 53 appearances, including 33 starts.
“We appreciate Kellyn’s contributions to the team both on and off the field,” said Fire director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter. “His leadership has been important as we move into a new chapter, and this decision allows him to seek new opportunities.”
In his career across MLS, Acosta has achieved a total of 21 goals and 28 assists in 305 games, with 245 starts, playing for FC Dallas, Colorado Rapids, Los Angeles FC, and Chicago Fire.
Acosta has also played for the United States Men’s National Team, featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He has two goals and five assists in 58 matches for the USMNT.
