Jonathan Bamba scored in the second half as the Chicago Fire beat the Philadelphia Union 2-1 on Saturday. This marked Chicago’s first away win of the season.

Hugo Cuypers contributed with a goal in the first half, giving the Fire (2-2-1, 7 points) a boost after their strong start in the Eastern Conference.

Chris Brady made three saves, helping Chicago overcome a four-match winless streak against the Union.

Milan Iloski scored for Philadelphia just before halftime, but the Union (0-5-0, 0 points) are now facing the worst record for a defending Supporters’ Shield champion. This comes shortly after their exit from the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Bamba’s goal came in the 58th minute. Cuypers, spotting Robin Lod, assisted with a pass that led to an accurate cross. Bamba volleyed the ball past goalkeeper Andre Blake.

Philadelphia pushed for an equalizer, while Chicago had chances to extend their lead. Maren Haile-Selassie nearly scored in the 63rd minute, and Lod hit the crossbar in the 82nd.

Both teams found the net in the first half’s stoppage time. Cuypers scored first for Chicago with a powerful header from a cross by Andrew Gutman.

Philadelphia equalized four minutes later. A long throw-in led to Iloski’s header, which found its way under the crossbar.
