The Fire has transferred midfielder Brian Gutierrez, a Chicago native, to Club Deportivo Guadalajara for what the MLS club described as a “multi-million-dollar transfer fee.”
Reports suggest the deal is valued at $5 million.
If Guadalajara decides to keep Gutierrez, the Fire will receive a portion of any future transfer fee.
He has been part of the Fire youth academy since 2015.
“Brian has shown steady growth and commitment to our club for 11 years. His consistent progress has led to a career-best season, and we are proud of what he has accomplished,” said Gregg Berhalter, Fire director of football and head coach.
“As he embarks on this new chapter, we are confident he will keep improving and leave a bigger mark in the future.”
Gutierrez, 22, scored nine goals and provided six assists in 29 matches (24 starts) last season.
Overall, he has 19 goals and 18 assists in 149 career matches (104 starts) with the Fire.
He holds Mexican nationality and received a Mexican passport in 2015, enabling him to play for Mexico’s national team.
Additionally, the Fire has permanently transferred forward Georgios Koutsias to FC Lugano. He had been on loan to the Swiss club since January.
Koutsias, 20, recorded five goals and three assists in 57 appearances (18 starts) with the Fire from 2023 to 2024.
