Chelsea will take on West Ham in a Premier League London Derby this weekend.

Although there is rivalry between the two clubs, several players have represented both teams in the Premier League era.

Axel Disasi is currently in discussions about a loan move to West Ham from Chelsea before Monday’s deadline.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash, we highlight five notable players who have played for both clubs in the Premier League.

Five standout players who played for West Ham and Chelsea in the Premier League:

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard began his career at West Ham, being the son of club legend Frank Lampard senior.

With his father involved in coaching and his uncle, Harry Redknapp, managing the team, Lampard was part of a talented group of youngsters making their way into the first team.

Despite facing some doubts about nepotism, Redknapp famously supported him, claiming he would excel in football.

Redknapp was right, although not with West Ham as many expected. After making 187 appearances and scoring 39 goals for the Hammers, Lampard joined Chelsea for £11 million in 2001.

Over the next decade, he established himself as one of England’s top players, scoring significantly from midfield.

His contributions were key when Chelsea won their first Premier League title in 2004/05, and he continued to add to his trophy collection, with a total of three league titles, six domestic cups, and a Champions League title, becoming Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals.

He ranks as the sixth-highest scorer in Premier League history, a remarkable feat for a midfielder.

Joe Cole

Joe Cole was known at West Ham for his exceptional talent in the late 1990s. He had a bright future ahead, being part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1999.

As a teenager, Cole impressed fans with his skills and creativity, captaining the team by age 21 and winning club accolades despite the team being relegated.

Chelsea signed him for £6 million as they emerged into a dominant force under Roman Abramovich.

Cole spent seven seasons at Chelsea, making 280 appearances and collecting three Premier League titles and two FA Cups.

While he returned to West Ham later in his career, he contributed significantly during his years at Chelsea.

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson also made the move from West Ham to Chelsea in 2003, following his breakthrough season with the Hammers.

Chelsea secured him for £6 million, marking one of the first transfers of the Abramovich era. He played regularly during his debut season.

Though his role diminished with the arrival of new players, Johnson received winner’s medals in the 2004/05 season.

After making 71 appearances for Chelsea, he left for Portsmouth, later joining Liverpool and achieving significant success there.

Scott Parker

Scott Parker was signed by Chelsea from Charlton Athletic as part of their early recruitment strategy. He faced stiff competition and played for just two seasons before moving to Newcastle.

Parker later joined West Ham, where he became a fan favorite and was named West Ham’s Player of the Year three times, even winning the FWA Footballer of the Year during a challenging season for the club.

He later had stints with Tottenham and Fulham, remaining a well-liked figure across various teams.

Demba Ba

Demba Ba was picked up by West Ham in January 2011 after a failed attempt to join Stoke City. He made an immediate impact, scoring twice on his debut.

Ba became West Ham’s top scorer that season, but the club was relegated. He moved to Newcastle, where he enjoyed a prolific spell before signing with Chelsea for £7 million in 2013.

Although not always a starter, he made important contributions, including a memorable FA Cup winner against Manchester United and a crucial goal against Liverpool that affected their title race.
