The Austrian is not in Alonso’s plans.
This summer, Real Madrid‘s management sought to address David Alaba’s situation, as he is not part of Xabi Alonso’s plans for the new season.
Details: According to Fichajes, Florentino Pérez offered to mutually terminate Alaba’s contract, offering to pay half of his remaining salary, allowing him to leave as a free agent.
However, the 33-year-old Austrian rejected this offer, deciding to complete his contract and retain his full salary. Due to ongoing knee issues and decreasing market value, Alaba’s chances of joining a competitive European club have diminished, making a potential move to the Saudi Pro League more likely.
Consequently, Real Madrid shifted their focus from searching for a new central defender to exploring internal options. Young player Huijsen has already taken his opportunity and secured a starting position, while the club plans to consider additional defensive reinforcements no earlier than 2026, with Konaté as a top target.
Last season, the Austrian participated in only 14 matches across all competitions.
Reminder: Konaté has declined to extend his contract with Liverpool as he seeks a move to Real Madrid.
