Luca Langoni made a significant impact with two goal contributions as the New England Revolution secured a 3-0 win against CF Montreal on Saturday. Goalkeeper Matt Turner recorded five saves, earning a clean sheet for the team.
Langoni scored in the first half and assisted Mamadou Fofana’s first MLS goal, helping New England (2-3-0, 6 points) continue their undefeated streak at home.
Peyton Miller added another goal, bringing the Revolution to a 10-6-2 record against Montreal in Foxborough.
Montreal (1-5-0, 3 points) faced its third consecutive loss. Keeper Thomas Gillier made two saves during the match.
With a 1-0 lead, Fofana increased the advantage in the 77th minute by redirecting a pass from Langoni past Gillier. In stoppage time, Miller scored by chipping the ball over Gillier.
Montreal had good chances to equalize early in the second half. Dawid Bugaj hit the crossbar from outside the box in the 58th minute, and Hennadii Synchuk’s rebound header required a save from Turner.
Langoni opened scoring early, in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Dor Turgeman’s shot for his first goal of the season. Gillier saved Turgeman’s initial shot but couldn’t hold onto the ball.
Montreal’s Efrain Morales missed a good chance six minutes later, sending a header over the goal. Turgeman nearly scored again in the 16th minute but hit the post instead.
Montreal’s Brandan Craig had a header saved by Turner in the 33rd minute. Revolution coach Marko Mitrovic received a red card in the 34th minute for disputing a yellow card given to Will Sands.
This match was the first of two encounters between Montreal and New England, with a rematch scheduled for August 1.
