For the third consecutive year, the Leagues Cup final will feature two teams from Major League Soccer. The Seattle Sounders will face Inter Miami in the championship match on Sunday, August 31, at Lumen Field.

This ensures that all three of the tournament’s available spots for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup have been secured by MLS clubs. Both Seattle and Miami recently competed in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, bringing international experience to the final.

Seattle had a strong run to the championship game. They were the only team from either MLS or Liga MX to finish the group stage with a perfect record, collecting nine points and a +9 goal difference. After defeating Pachuca in a penalty shootout, the Sounders won their semifinal match against LA Galaxy 2-0. Goals were scored by Pedro de la Vega and Osaze De Rosario. The team also maintained a clean sheet for the second knockout game in a row, even after Nouhou received a late red card.

Inter Miami, the champions from 2023, have reached the final again, largely due to the performance of Lionel Messi. After returning from a hamstring injury, Messi scored two goals to help his team come from behind and win 3-1 against Orlando City in the semifinal. He first scored a penalty to tie the game and later scored the winning goal after an assist from Jordi Alba. Telasco Segovia added a final goal in stoppage time to secure the victory.

The stage is set for a notable final, as Seattle pursues its first Leagues Cup title while Messi aims to lead Miami to another championship.
