Concerns have been raised about VAR officials.
In a recent Premier League match, Brentford secured a draw against Chelsea with a last-minute goal from Fabio Carvalho in the 90+2nd minute. However, experts are questioning the goal’s validity.
Details: Keith Hackett, a former head of PGMOL and ex-FIFA referee, noted that VAR officials should have reviewed the goal for a possible offside. This review did not occur, leading to uncertainty about the goal’s legitimacy.
Quote: “I expected play to be halted for a thorough review. You cannot be offside from a throw-in. The Brentford player was in the right position for the flick-on, and the Chelsea defender played the ball—at that moment, Carvalho was offside.
The chance to utilize VAR lines to accurately assess player positions would have been beneficial, especially since VAR has semi-automated offside technology. I anticipated VAR would step in to examine this. Since that didn’t happen, we are left questioning whether the goal was valid,” Hackett told Football Insider.
