Carlos Alcaraz has yet to replace Juan Carlos Ferrero ahead of 2026 Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz’s coaching situation remains uncertain after his recent split from Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Alcaraz announced their separation earlier this month, despite their successful partnership over the years.

Although this change comes just before the 2026 Australian Open, Ferrero is not worried about Alcaraz’s future.

Another Spaniard, Samuel Lopez, is still involved in Alcaraz’s coaching team and supports him as he aims for his first title at Melbourne Park.

Since his split with Ferrero, Carlos Alcaraz has not yet won an Australian Open title. However, he has made significant achievements, including two Grand Slam titles while Ferrero was by his side.

Former world number one Yevgeny Kafelnikov commented on the qualities needed for Alcaraz’s next coach. He made it clear that he does not want to get involved in the search.

Kafelnikov stated, “If you ask me, I personally would not want to deal with the parents. If Carlos approaches someone directly, that’s OK.”

He added that a new coach should ensure that the parents do not interfere in coaching matters but can support from the sidelines.

“A father cannot be an agent, handling all the deals and schedules. I’m honestly not sure who could take charge now,” he said.

Looking back at Yevgeny Kafelnikov’s tennis career

Kafelnikov has made a significant impact in tennis, earning a place in the Hall of Fame.

He reached number one in the ATP rankings and won two Grand Slam singles titles: one at the French Open and one at the Australian Open.

He also reached another Grand Slam final in 2000, losing to Andre Agassi, and secured four doubles titles at various majors.

Kafelnikov won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and ended his career with 26 ATP titles.

Alcaraz is approaching that milestone, having already won 24 titles, with Ferrero playing a crucial role in his success.
