Nice has faced significant criticism in French football since last season’s European Cup. This week, the Aiglons lost to Freiburg despite leading 1-0, finishing the match 1-3. At the final whistle, coach Franck Haise pointed out the team’s shortcomings: “We don’t have the means to do anything other than push forward,” he remarked, echoing his earlier comments after the match against Celta de Vigo: “We are just OGC Nice.”
According to the newspaper L’Équipe, this was seen as a jab at president Fabrice Bocquet and sporting director Florian Maurice. While Haise played a role in recruiting some players this summer, he refuses to carry the blame for the team’s struggles alone. He believes Bocquet and Maurice need to step up to prevent further disaster.
