Thomas Frank has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur attempted to sign Antoine Semenyo this month, just before their match against him this weekend.
Spurs will play against Manchester City in the Premier League, where Semenyo, who recently joined City from Bournemouth, will be in the lineup. He has had a strong start, scoring three goals in four games.
Frank mentioned that Tottenham made efforts to persuade Semenyo to move to North London.
“I can assure you that the Lewis family is fully committed to this project. They are eager to do everything,” Frank said regarding the club’s ownership.
“It’s crystal clear that the club wanted to sign [Antoine] Semenyo. They made significant efforts, showcasing the Lewis family’s commitment to the team.”
“This is a major signing, financially and in terms of quality. That’s the type of player we are aiming to add to our squad.”
Tottenham has welcomed Conor Gallagher and Souza this month and is in discussions with Liverpool about Andy Robertson. Frank stated that Spurs will only pursue new players if it aligns with their needs, suggesting that some transfers might be postponed until the summer.
“If we can’t find the right quality of player in January, it’s better to wait for the right decision.”
“If we cannot bring in another player during this window, we will focus on a significant summer ahead, where we expect to see key improvements.”
