Frankfurt vs Tottenham Preview, Prediction and Where to Watch Europa League

Eintracht Frankfurt host Tottenham Hotspur at Deutsche Bank Park in the second leg of the 2024/2025 Europa League quarterfinals on Friday (4/18) at 00:30 IST. After holding Spurs to a 0-0 draw in London last week, Frankfurt’s impressive home record gives them the upper hand.

Young goalkeeper Kaua Santos was outstanding in the first leg, providing an impenetrable wall for Spurs. His brilliant performance gives Frankfurt a vital advantage going into the decider. The goalkeeper is certain to start again with Kevin Trapp still injured and Jens Grahl ineligible for European competition.

Frankfurt will also go into the game full of confidence after beating Heidenheim 3-0 last weekend. The win extended their record to three consecutive home wins and strengthened their position in the Bundesliga’s top four, moving them closer to a Champions League spot next season.

In Europe, Die Adler have been even more ferocious. They have won four straight Europa League games at home this season, including a 4-1 thrashing of Ajax and clean sheets against RFS, Slavia Praha and Ferencvaros.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are in dire straits. A 4-2 defeat to Wolves last weekend extended their poor away record to six defeats in their last seven games in all competitions. Spurs are now 15th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.

History is not on their side either. They have lost six of their last seven visits to Germany in the knockout stages of European competitions, and have only progressed once after failing to win the first leg at home, in the dramatic comeback against Ajax in the 2019 Champions League semifinals.

The team is not in the best shape. Son Heung-min is doubtful with a foot injury, and his absence will delay his chance of breaking the club’s record of 68 European appearances. However, Dejan Kulusevski is back and could start, while several key players such as Porro, Udogie and Van de Ven are ready to play again.

Coach Ange Postecoglou is under a lot of pressure. With their poor league form, the Europa League is his only hope to save the season and possibly his job.

Predicted Lineups

Eintracht Frankfurt (4-3-3):
Kaua Santos; Kristensen, Koch, Theate, Brown; Shkiri, Tuta, Larsson; Gotze, Ekitike, Bahoya

Tottenham Hotspur (4-3-3):
Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son (if fit)

Frankfurt vs Tottenham Head to Head Record

Tottenham won: 2 times
Eintracht Frankfurt won: 1 time
Draw: 2 times
Last match: Tottenham 0-0 Eintracht Frankfurt (10/4)

Prediction Score Frankfurt 2-1 Tottenham

Frankfurt are favourites given their consistent home form and Europa League experience. Spurs, who have been poor away from home and failed to win the first leg, are unlikely to turn things around, especially without Son. Defeat could spell the end of their European adventure and Postecoglou’s future.
