A showdown between the two national teams was expected.

In 2022, Argentina beat France in the World Cup final to win the gold medals. The French Football Federation wanted a rematch.

Details: L’Équipe reported that the FFF considered setting up a return match with Argentina. But Kylian Mbappé, a key player for France, expressed concerns about the long trip, which would exceed 10 hours. After his warning, the federation decided against the plan.

The World Cup final ended 3-3 after regular time and extra time, with Argentina winning in the penalty shootout. For France, this was their second consecutive final, having won the trophy in 2018.
