French Star Antoine Griezmann Signs with Orlando City

Orlando City SC officially signed Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old French forward is signed through the 2027-28 season, with an option for 2028-29. Details on the financial aspects were not shared.

“Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a significant moment for our club, our city, our supporters, and Major League Soccer,” said team owner Mark Wilf. “He is one of the top players of his era. His choice of Orlando City highlights our mission and culture. We aim to build a championship-level team, and adding a player like Antoine reinforces that belief.”

Griezmann will join the team as a designated player when the MLS secondary transfer window opens in July, pending medical clearance and necessary international paperwork.

“I am eager to start this new chapter with Orlando City,” Griezmann said. “From my first talks with the Club, I sensed strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, which resonated with me. I can’t wait to make Orlando my home, connect with supporters, feel the energy at Inter&Co Stadium, and give my all to help the team succeed.”

This season, Griezmann has scored 13 goals and provided four assists with the La Liga team.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner played 10 seasons at Atletico Madrid, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals from 2014 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2026. He was named La Liga Player of the Year in 2015-16 and placed third in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2016 and 2018.

“Antoine is a well-rounded footballer—creative, smart, and decisive—and he has proven himself on major stages,” said Orlando City general manager Ricardo Moreira. “In addition to his talent, he brings leadership and a winning mentality that will lift those around him. This is a major signing for our club, and we are excited to welcome Antoine and his family to Orlando.”

Griezmann has scored 298 goals and provided 132 assists in 792 professional appearances in Spain. He scored 44 goals in 137 matches for France before retiring from international competition in 2024.
