He was expected to spend another season at Strasbourg before signing a long-term contract with Chelsea, set to join in 2026. These predictions were confirmed when Chelsea officially announced the signing of the Dutch striker on September 12, sparking anger among Strasbourg fans.

Feeling betrayed by their captain, who posed proudly while wearing the jersey of his future club just a month into the season, fans made their discontent known during the match against Le Havre on September 14. Emegha faced boos and banners, leading to feelings of sadness, disappointment, and confusion. As the team’s top scorer for the 2024-2025 season and a club stalwart, he felt he didn’t deserve such treatment.

Emegha is not particularly welcomed by fans

Since then, Emegha has suffered a hamstring injury during the match against OM on September 26, and he is struggling to recover. Initially expected back after the October break, he continues to experience pain. According to L’Equipe, he may not return until after the international break in November, extending his absence to two months. While this period may have allowed him to process the fans’ backlash, it has also given his direct competitor, Joaquin Panichelli, the chance to shine.

The Argentine is currently leading the Ligue 1 scoring chart with nine goals. He has netted in the last five matches across all competitions, displaying a rare synergy on the field with teammates Valentin Barco and Diego Moreira. Once a crucial player for RCSA, Emegha is not expected back urgently, as fans are pleased with Panichelli’s performances.

Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior defended Emegha during the booing against Le Havre. He now faces the task of bringing Emegha back on track, as the player’s future at the club could be at stake this season. With Chelsea waiting and tough competition looming, Emegha needs to finish Ligue 1 strong to convince his new club of his potential.
