Fulham faces Newcastle United at St James’ Park tonight in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Cottagers aim for their first major trophy in this competition. Fulham reached the semi-finals last season, and a win today will guarantee a spot in the last four again.
Standing in their way are the reigning champions, who ended their 56-year trophy drought by defeating Liverpool in last year’s final at Wembley.
Fulham advanced by defeating Bristol City, Cambridge United, and Wycombe Wanderers, with the last match going to penalties. Newcastle secured home victories over Bradford City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Marco Silva’s team has been affected by departures for the Africa Cup of Nations this week. Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, and Calvin Bassey have all joined Nigeria’s squad for the tournament.
Jorge Cuenca is likely to step in for Bassey at centre-back, while Fulham will rely on Harry Wilson for creativity in attack.
Injury updates include Rodrigo Muniz, who is sidelined with a thigh injury, indicating Raul Jimenez will take the lead. Ryan Sessegnon also has a thigh issue and will miss the match.
