Arne Slot acknowledged that the atmosphere from the Galatasaray fans made it “difficult” for Liverpool, as his team faced a second defeat in Istanbul this season.
Liverpool lost 1-0 in the first leg of their last-16 match against the Turkish team in the UEFA Champions League, repeating their earlier loss in the league in September.
The match’s only goal came from Mario Lemina in the sixth minute, who scored with a header from a corner. Osimhen believed he had scored a second goal in the 60th minute, but Baris Yilmaz was controversially ruled offside in the play. Liverpool thought they had equalized when Ibrahima Konate handled the ball into the net.

“There were a lot of similarities between three months ago and now,” Slot remarked to Uefa after the match.
“We had several chances to score. After 10-15 minutes, we expected to be in the lead, but their first attack led to a set-piece goal. Last time it was a penalty, and we had another disallowed goal.”
Liverpool must win by at least one goal at Anfield next Wednesday to stay in the competition. Slot is optimistic that playing at home will benefit his team.
“You play two games against each other, and now it’s half-time; they’re 1-0 up,” he stated. “I’m confident we can perform better. Even in this match, we created enough chances to score.”
“We didn’t succeed, but next week we play at Anfield, and our fans will support us greatly. Today, Galatasaray had fantastic backing from their fans, which made it tough for us.”
“Let’s hope we can create a similar atmosphere next week at Anfield.”
