Lucas Torreira, the 30-year-old Uruguayan midfielder for Galatasaray, was involved in a disturbing incident while walking in Istanbul. The player was reportedly punched in the face by a stranger, who is said to be a fan of his partner, Ipek B.
According to reports from Football Tweet, the attack occurred when the assailant approached Torreira and Ipek under the pretext of wanting to take a photograph. However, things took a violent turn when the individual unexpectedly struck Torreira, causing him to fall to the ground.
Police responded swiftly to the scene and apprehended the attacker. During questioning, he claimed that his anger stemmed from a previous relationship with Ipek B, which had soured after she rejected him. The assailant revealed that he had been communicating with Ipek on social media and had lost control when he saw her with Torreira.
“I had platonic feelings for her, but she was upset with me, so she previously obtained a restraining order against me in court.
However, when I saw several photos of her with Lucas Torreira on Instagram, I started to feel hatred towards him.
Yesterday, after learning via Instagram that Torreira and his family were at the Rixos hotel, I took a taxi there in a fit of anger and, as soon as I saw him, punched him in the face,” said the attacker.
It has been confirmed that Ipek B had previously secured a court order prohibiting any contact from the assailant. Torreira has not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident.
