Daniel Sturridge: ‘The key players have been lost’
On Sky Sports, Daniel Sturridge noted that the departures of Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jarell Quansah have contributed significantly to the team’s decline in quality under Arne Slot.
Sturridge expressed doubts about whether the new players have matched the standard set by those who left, citing the difference in performance between Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.
“Luis Diaz was one of the top players last season. While Salah broke records, Díaz was relentless in pressing, scoring, and creating chances,” he said.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold was the most creative right-back in the Premier League for 15 years, and he’s no longer with the club.”
“Jarell Quansah was crucial when Konate and Virgil struggled. Where is Quansah now? He doesn’t play for the club anymore.”
“Ekitike has performed well; Isak hasn’t. Ekitike has been the most consistent scorer for the team.”
“The major difference is the loss of key players. The new arrivals haven’t performed at the level of those who left. That’s the reality.”
Gary Neville disagrees with transfer argument regarding Liverpool’s issues
Neville countered by questioning the idea that transfers solely account for Liverpool’s struggles. He emphasized that mentality, tactics, and consistency are also significant issues.
The former Manchester United player stated that despite personnel changes, Liverpool’s system under Slot should be flexible enough to maintain performance.
