Manchester United is considering bringing back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim manager after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, a decision that has sparked mixed opinions among observers.
Sky Sports reports that the club has discussed the interim position with both Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, but it seems they will appoint only one. Currently, Solskjaer is the leading candidate, while Darren Fletcher is still managing training for the time being.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy calls Solskjaer’s return “crazy”
Not everyone favors the return of Solskjaer. Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool player, expressed his disbelief to the Manchester Evening News, questioning the decision to rehire someone who was previously let go.
“Man United paid him to leave because he ultimately failed, and now they’re going to pay him to come back? It seems ridiculous,” Murphy remarked. He suggested that the club should consider options like Michael Carrick or Roy Keane instead.
Stephen Warnock shared this view, advising the board to hold off until summer when top names like Thomas Tuchel or Carlo Ancelotti might be available.
He stated, “I don’t understand the Solskjaer one; I don’t understand why you go back there.”
Solskjaer’s wage demands revealed
The Mirror disclosed that Solskjaer could make between £50,000 and £60,000 a week if he accepts the temporary role, with a bonus of £3–4 million possible if he leads the team back into the Champions League. Reports indicate that Solskjaer is enthusiastic about the possibility and would “jump at the chance” to return.
United is currently just outside the top four, and with Amorim’s departure leaving the team in uncertainty, the board views Solskjaer as someone who can stabilize the situation. However, Carrick remains a viable option if discussions with Solskjaer fall through.
Gary Neville’s ‘Groundhog Day’ Man Utd warning
Gary Neville, who played alongside Solskjaer, has raised concerns about the club’s trend of relying on familiar faces.
He mentioned in The Mirror, “It’s like going through cycles. United have been doing this for 12 years now. They put Ryan Giggs in charge, then Ole took charge, and now it’s back to the old boys. It’s almost like a movie we’ve all seen before, like Groundhog Day.”
