Gerrard Believes Aston Villa’s Watkins Has Potential to Excel Further

Steven Gerrard believes Ollie Watkins, the forward for Aston Villa, has the potential to reach a higher level.

During his time as Aston Villa manager, Gerrard worked closely with Watkins and was impressed by his abilities.

Watkins has scored 90 goals in 247 matches for Villa but has had a slow start this season, with only three Premier League goals before Christmas.

Despite his current performance, Gerrard is confident that Watkins can improve further. He shared his thoughts while discussing his time at the club with Ally McCoist on ‘Ally’s Social Club’ on TNT Sports.

He noted that he had some exceptional players at Villa Park and expressed disappointment about how his tenure ended in October 2022.

“Some of the players we worked with at Villa were top. John McGinn is a manager’s dream, both on and off the pitch.

“Matty Cash. Ollie Watkins. Top, top talent. We made some great signings like Lucas Digne and Boubacar Kamara. I believe Watkins can reach an even higher level if he finds consistency. I was really disappointed with how Villa finished, but the last run of results was deserved. That was on me.”
